Found this gas tank in a barn the other day and was wondering what it was from. I tried to do some searching around and figure it may be from a 70's or 80's softail but i figured you all would know better than me. It's not rusty inside but its missing the cap and gauge and has a few small dents. As it is, is it worth anything?

I'm just guessing here, but that looks like
a Dyna dash/ console. Google search FXR gas tank
and you'll see some pics.
The one you have could be an 82-84 fxr dyna tank

Knight has it right. My first thought was it belonged to a FXR.

 

Would anyone use the tank for a restoration or is it pretty much just a wall hanger?

Can't be from a 70's Softail, no such thing was made.
