Anyone ever been busted..? I know motorcycles are exempt from emissions in Illinois. I just don't know if Handle Bars raise the red flag which then leads to the Pipe ticket too.. Thanks for any insight...

 

Go to the AMA site and click on your state for all the applicable motorcycle laws. It states handle grip height must be below shoulder height concerning bars, in IL. That being said, I see lot's of "Illegal" apes running around here, and I'm sure 95% of the Harley's are also illegal concerning exhaust noise (mine included). Lot's of cops ride around here, and their bikes are just as "illegal" as everyone elses. If you act like an ***, you'll be dealt with, but for the most part, the LEO's are cool about Harley's in my area of IL. Check out the AMA site though - lot's of good info. for state regs. Very handy for when riding through neighboring states to know their laws as well.

 

There is a limit to the height that your bars can be in IL. It used to be that they couldn not be any higher than your shoulders, but I think it has changed. you should be able to call any HD dealer in the area for the specifics. As far as the pipes go each town pretty much handles it their own way. My town has one specific street with a sound ordinance which was done strictly to keep "loud" bikes off it.

 

if you party , dont do it !!! my buds have been hasseled many times and ticketed, which leads to finding things ya dont want them too , if ya get my point......... the state and county are the ones that will get ya, city cops got more to do usually ,, i like them but im not gonna get pulled over, just to have them , ruins the day
