Slim's w/ Apes - Post Your Pics

So I'm dragging on right now trying to figure out which style ape to go with on the Slim.

Please post which apes and the bar diameter/height. I'm torn between 1.25 and 1.50 on the slim front end right now.

Now if Ronin99 you see this thread I saw your pictures when you first put your 14" 1.25 Carlini's on your slim, but the photos were taken without controls on the bars. Could you post some updated photos with controls from the front and side if possible. Be a huge help if so, have been holding off on the evil apes because I figured they were not wide enough for the front end of a slim? But then some of the original apes seem too wide for the slim? I have also looked at gangsters etc.

Any input is appreciated on anyones thoughts with apes on a Slim..

this is only my personal opinion, but after seeing both 1.25 and 1.5 bars on the FL front end, 1.5 is the way to go hands down. I am putting the gangsters on mine. Hoping to have everything done by this time next month.

I really wanted 1.5 Evil Apes, but Carlini wouldn't make them so I went with the gangsters.

If you look at Ronin's slim with 1.25 evil's it looks damn good, and he even has the nacelle freight train headlight with it , which is my eyes would only make the bars look smaller, but it doesnt...it looks pretty damn good.

I just think the evil apes are a perfect style for the slim's, enough to sacrifice the 1.50 for the 1.25's.

1.25s look fine on the slims. You might want to look in the main slim thread for some more inspiration

Went with Carlini Evil Apes 1.25 14"

Anyone have any good sites to calculate the cables/electric extensions I will need!

Thanks!

Here's my 2013 with the 1-1/4" diameter HD Fat Apes. The bars themselves have about a 12" rise and come with 4" risers so they are marketed by the MoCo as 16" apes, however I ditched the kit risers in favor of some 1.5" RSD risers instead.

I took these shots the day I brought her home. Since that day I have replaced the mirrors with black HD long stems and I've flipped them under the bars. Much cleaner look. (Also replaced the silver fork strip with black). those small changes make a difference but I dont have any updated photos to share. Next I've got to rotate the bars a bit so they are inline with the forks. They look a little odd with their current orientation.

I also have to say I love the 10" strip bars on oomariooo's sled.

fate0311 08-13-2013 04:03 PM

question for you guys running 14" carlini bars on there slims, what extensions did you go with; +6 or +8?

carlini told me the slim is too new of a bike and they have not had the chance to get any kits or measurements to give out. so i'm on my own and was hoping to be able to order the lines while im waiting for my bars to come in and have it all shipped same time frame.

if i have to wait, mount the bars and then take measurements i will but hoping to get bailed out by someone on here. thanks guys!

gregeinsc 08-22-2013 05:24 PM

How is it that most every thread that talks about this subject always ends with someone asking what measurements were used without any response from the forum member that didn't have any trouble at all posting pics of his ride/work, but then disappears when they are asked about the measurements used? Is it because you don't know due to the fact you had somebody else do the work? Fine, say that. Do you need a double D cup around here to get a question answered about cable lengths and Carlini apes like bikerornot.com??

Pie1971 09-15-2014 06:48 PM

OK here is what is used and from 14" 1.25" Carlini Gangster apes with there high roller risers, I order my cables from HD Bike parts and he did the math for me. I only had one problem the brake like is about 3 to 4 inches to long and that's not the big of a deal. I installed them my self and took about 8hrs not bad for a first timer! https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.hdf...2ea27b88c3.jpg

sorry i'm about a year late on this. but i took that pic with my phone above the head which accentuates the bars. photos on the web look good but don't do it justice - at least w the iPhone camera. the bars don't look tiny in diameter. now if you're going 17 i would get the 1.5 thick.

everyone of my buddies thought 14 was too short - til they sat on the bike. if i had to do it all over again, I'd choose exactly the same setup.

great pics everyone. Im really tempted to switch to apes, but the hollywood bars are one of the things on the slim that make it a throw-back.

Was it a diffiult decision for you guys? What did you end up doing with the stock hollywood bars?

I would love to see a direct from the side shot, did the tank lift make a positive profile difference?

I got tired of my hands going numb from the pressure that was put on my wrists (carpal tunnel)...my left hand ring finger also would "lock". Since the switch almost 2 months ago, my hand issues are GONE. So it was a no-brainer for me.

As for the bars and risers, I sold em online.

I’ll get you one tonight. I think so, and I like being able to see the top of the rocker boxes. Also, the guage is higher and more in my line of sight.
