Im not a tuner or a mechanic but with cooler heads you can have higher compressions or you have the ability to advance timing with less chance of knock. With a cam and a good tune you could get allot more power for a pretty small investment I would think?

IDK, maybe Im stupid but it seems like a cooler head would lead to the potential for more HP if you modded away from the stock EPA optimized configuration.

Yes, you're correct that the principle of using air to cool fluids is the same, but the execution is not. Introducing a new element, coolant, via an elaborate set of plumbing is neither elegant nor without risk of creating a new point of failure. Paul

Agreed, I can only imagine what a water pump is going to cost. Its not pretty either, true enough but Ive always thought oil coolers were pretty ugly too.

Its funny that none of the literature actually says water cooled but I guess its only in the head around the exhaust port so HD will still consider it a mostly air cooled engine.

Its a nice execution anyway with the radiators hidden in the lower fairings and the hot air exhausting out the side.

I think for some guys in the really hot climates this may be a welcome option.
I saw the horseman when e.f.i. came into play.

With all the fairings on the touring bikes there is not enough air getting to the engine to cool it at slow speeds and when stopped. I t had to happen with the EPA trying to make motorcycles clean

Liquid cooled was the parts dept lingo. Mostly on the larger touring bikes.

The touring line looks more like a Victory/Ness spaceship every year!

Funny...thats exactly what the Harley mechanics were saying as they were coming off the truck.

I know I am in the minority but I stopped at the dealer today and saw a Limited and there is NO WAY IN HELL I would buy one. Hoses coming out the bottom connect to a water pump underneath a plastic cover at the bottom front part of the frame. Hoses go up the frame rails and cross the front of the engine about an inch off of the rocker cover and down between the jugs. To the casual observer, they may not notice. To me...it is just too much stuff around and hiding the engine. I have owned a lot of Harleys and still own 2 but I think if I ever buy another new one I will be back on a Softail or a Road King. To be honest, I don't like the lowers or a tourpak anyway. I have a detachable tourpak for my FLHX and I only use it for trips.

So...at least for now, the Softail line is still clean and uncluttered.
