popping on deceleration
I have V&H staggards, SE AC and a fuel pack and I get some decel pop from time to time but nothing like I got before I added the fuel pak.
I guess I'd have to know what you mean by "I am still getting a bit of popping on deceleration".
Is that all the time or just some of the time?
Before I added the fuel pak I got it all the time now I only get it just some of the time.
Also many people slam the Fuel pak but for the money I think if you are only going to stage 1 spending anything more is a waste because an advanced tuner can only do so much with stage 1 setup.

After I added the V&H BigShots and S&S Super A/C, the dealer did their "canned map download" thing.
The bike ran a little better but I wasn't happy with it at all.
Fuel mileage increased significantly (up by 4-5 MPG), decel pop was constant, and my oil temps soared by 25°.
Obviously it was still way too lean.
I started off using ViED's as a cheap fix, but mainly to confirm the lean condition.
They worked well, so well in fact that I left those on for a year.
But I always knew I'd be looking at a tuner down the road since I wasn't crazy about the full-time piggyback install of the ViED's.
Then the FP3 came out.
After reading a fair amount of good reviews I bought one.
After flashing the first "recommended" map, the bike really came alive.
I could definitely feel it pulling harder from top to bottom, decel pop vanished COMPLETELY, oil temps dropped considerably and my fuel mileage returned to a more respectable 40-42 MPG...
It even sounded better.
I'm quite happy with mine - no complaints whatsoever.
If I ever decide to go further than Stage 1 I may reconsider another tuner, but for my set-up the FP3 performed beautifully.
..just my

What exactly can change causing a growing decel pop? Over the course of say the last 7k miles, she has gone from snap crackle pop, to pop bang , to now pop pop gun shot, I have supper trapp mean mother straight, nice air cleaner, big bore kit an a pc3, never messed wih the pc3, been the same map forever,

I pulled the baffels out awhile ago thinking maybe they rusted an shrunk and is why its changed, there is no mesh, they are open pipes with a tube 6" long of spiral "cheese grater" hole in it for baffels
I installed Vance & Hines big shots long on my 2013 Heritage. I put in the quiet baffles to reduce the noise and installed a V&H Fuel Pak to calibrate the exhaust and to remove the popping and backfiring. I am still getting a bit of popping on deceleration. Now I'm wondering if upgrading the air intake will eliminate the popping completely or if what I have now is the best it can get with after market exhausts? I am not interested in more power so should I save my money or upgrade my intake? (probably V&H VO2 intake kit)
Decel popping does Not damage your engine...it is simply unburnt fuel that is burning in the exhaust tract after exiting the engine.
Decel popping occurs when one of two things are present.
1. The bike is so lean the exhaust is superheated and is burning the unburnt fuel that is in the pipes (there is always some unburnt fuel in the pipes no matter how lean). This is very rare.
2. The AFR IN THE pipes is just right to burn the unburnt fuel. This is quite a common occurrence when free flowing pipes are installed (whether or not a free flow A/C is installed). It can also occur if there is an exhaust leak that is introducing extra air into the exhaust tract.
So adding a free flowing air cleaner may change the afr in the pipes enough to eliminate the decel pop. However, the big shots are prone to decel pop and the two ways to change the AFR in your pipes that are most likely to get rid of the decel pop are-
Install Thunder Torque Inserts. Not only will these reduce/eliminate the decel pop, but you will also have a boost in the low & mid range powerband.
Get a good tune done, specifically addressing decel pop,
Or just dump some extra fuel into the combustion chambers...that will pass more into the exhaust tract, changing the AFR and eliminate the decel pop.(not recommended, but it does work)

An exhaust or intake leak that is getting worse.
An air cleaner that feeds the hot oily air back into air cleaner...can cause carbon deposits, which change compression ratio, which makes a previously good tune not so good anymore, which has changed the afr in the pipes, resulting in more decel pop than before.
