Default poker-run stop

If anyone is looking for a unique stop for a poker-run in the Statesville/Hickory/Lincolnton NC area, we stumbled on something this weekend. In the budding metropolis of Claremont, NC (Exit 135 off I-40, right on state HWY 70) there is an OLD hardware store that is now a little ice cream/candy store. The hardware store originally opened back in the 20’s. There are a lot of old cans and bottles from that era up to the early 60’s. There are a lot of old restored Victrola record players, and a juke box that still plays. The name of the place is Hewitt Store, and it’s on the corner of E. Main (HWY 70), and S. Depot. Right beside it is the Claremont Café, a local hamburger joint that is a gathering place for locals. It’s open Friday-Sunday.

Another stop close by is Murry’s Mill. An old grist mill that is still in limited production, but they do tours on the weekends.

Just thought I’d pass this along for what it’s worth.

Took these pictures last year of Murray's Mill. Linney's mill in Alexander County is also worth investigating.
