Painting Stock Exhaust Heat Shields

Painting Stock Exhaust Heat Shields
The Vance & Hines Short Shots are on my list but it's going to be a few months before I can gather up enough money for them, the VO2 air intake and the Fuel Pack to do all at the same time.
So... on my quest to remove chrome from my bike I got to thinking.
What if I took off the heat shields on the stock exhaust and painted them flat black.
I am certain there are people here that know exactly the way to go about doing that.
Please Advise on prep/technique and what to do/not do for this.
Thank you.

Muhahahaha.
Will will report back with pictures and such of the project when I do it.
Autozone sells VHT Engine Enamel... will that be good? Get the flat black? I looked for the High Temp stuff on Amazon.com and they want more for shipping than for the cost of the paint.
AutoZone says it's good to like 555°F, is that good enough?

This looks like the stuff that I really should wait and get. Better to be sure and get the stuff way beyond the temp limits to be safe.

$9 for the paint.
$7 for shipping/handling.
