Harley Davidson 883 Iron
Hi folks,
I have recently had the pleasure of owning a 66 reg 2017 model 883 iron, i have done only a hundred or so miles but already seems to be a very hard ride on the rear springs. I have adjusted for rider weight and tried a few marks each way but still seems hard in the old spinal area, I think this newer model has the cartridge preload shocks fitted as standard as part of the 2015 upgrade/makeover. Has anyone decided to swap out these stock shocks for a pair of progressive 412 maybe ? Some forums say the 412 are no better.
Any advice welcome

Four factors that increase spline & riding comfort level.
1. Riding position, leaning forward cafe racer style with rear controls, straight up with mid
controls, lean back with back rest with forward controls
2. Softer shocks, the longer the spring with fixed wire diameter and coil diameter
the softer the ride to reduce impact shock.
Replaced my 883C shocks with longer roadsters shocks.
The 09 883/1200C shocks were softer than the 08.
3. Thicker cushion with lower foam density seat reduces vibration forces.
The reason the Mustang Vintage and Mustang Wide Touring seat
with 3" thick, 2-3 #/CF density foam are so popular.
The mass produced ,one seat fits all, approach.
4. Seat contour to reduce pressure areas on the buttok
Corbin Saddle will custom contour a high density , 7#/CF, closed cell foam seat to fit the
rider. This approach reduces pressure points but does not isolate vibration forces as
much as a thick low density foam seat. Silicone gel isolates vibration forces either
inserted into a foam seat or as a separate comfort pad.
Prefer the comfort pad for long trips.
There are probably other factors that affect spline and butt comfort.
