Take a look at this Amsoil test-

The picture shows the metal temps of the engine / primary.
It looks like the primary cover (not the clutch adjustment cover) is around 267 F.

Wow... by comparison, it only takes about 165F to cook steak medium to well done.

And "steak" is very similar to a leg.

I took a 35 mile warmup ride today prior to changing and sampling my transmission/primary fluid. Mostly highways at 55-60 mph.
Outside air temperature is right at 80 F.

When I stopped my engine the oil temperature was 180 F.
I drained my primary/transmission collecting a UOA sample.
I took my engine oil temp dipstick and put it in the primary/transmission lube sample, it read 150F.
