Maintainence - Do you care?

Maintainence - Do you care?
With some things I am very perticular with Maintainence. My truck, HD and boat are 3 of them. Service done on time and all that. For instance, oil, lube and year transmission flush on my surburban. Fog the engine and take care of the boat motor. Pull the wheels and repack the bearings every year on the trailer. The motorcycle is no different. I do the saftey check everyweek, do the oil changes and have the chain checked on a regular basis.
Maybe its just me because in the manufacturing enviroment, I have seen the benefits of scheduled machine maintainence and also preventative maintainence. Tracking up time on old equipement is a easy way to see these benefits.
But I know dudes that just do see it that way. they change oil when they get around to it. They never grease fittings, and never look at there dip stick to see whats going on.
I was was talking to my motorcycle mechanic yesterday and he was working on a anniversery soft tail. The guy had 20,000 miles, just added oil - never changed it and had no brake pads. His tire was shot and never had anything adjusted as far as cables and chain. My guy tells me that this dude was not happy about spending the cash to get this work done... and was reluctant to have him do it. The mechanic was telling me he never seen oil that bad before, his chain was so sloppy and so on.
On one hand you got people like me, I can tell when any of my tires are low on my truck. I check my motorcycle tires every week. On the other you got people who once a year fill the tires up. How do you view it... are you like me and on top of things or you dont worry about this stuff?
