The Sportster was never particularly sporty! But a great name for a great bike. I wouldn't be surprised to see the 750 Street stretched to around 883cc, then a 1,000 plus 1200 added.

With the current politics, I doubt EPA will mess with it.

The MoCo could sell it at a loss and still make money on it.
I'm thinking they sell around 50,000 a year. Not something they would give up on. And I got this from Harley reports.

Maybe time to move on. I can not say for sure. Never tried to race one but I have heard the Street ROD will out run the sporties with ease.
I really don't know if my 750 Street would or not

How much longer?

I'd love to see the XL in addition to quicker, faster than any big twin in the lineup to end those "girl's bike" jokes.

Seems the Co. is addressing suspension.
Brakes could also be easily improved..OEM full floater system for example.
And then my fav., a six speed non clunking transmission.

Here, the "look" of a XL would not change.

But....smog and noise law will force a change.
More than likely to water cooling.
In this aspect I have no comments.
In closing, I still love the look of a '57.

Sportster name has been around from 1957. I am sure it has seen some changes over the years. It will see some more.
Unless I'm mistaken, the name 'Sportster' is one of, if not the, longest lived motorcycle name that's still around. Meanwhile, I'd like to think that HD has no intention of dropping that name. Change the machine, sure (gear-driven DOHC, 4 valves per w/liquid cooling, stronger/lighter frame and better braking, etc, etc). But drop the name, probably not.

I never really understood the "girls bike" thing. After all they were "dirt" bikes and back then Girls didn't ride much.

I hope they come out with something new and modern but still a Harley. Ha Ha! But don't ask me how it can be done. I love the Sportsters and own two. There's plenty of used ones for sale of all varieties. So, I would definitely be interested in a modern take on the Sportster. Bring it on HD!
