How much longer will the Sporty be a Sporty?

My guess is a M8 head, oil cooling, one size -1200cc and fewer variations. With 50 per cent increased flow it should be about 100 hp stock.
Maybe stronger lighter monoshock frame.
That setup would carry the Sportster well into the next decade.
rcbz71 - That 95 is a beauty. Don't let it go ever.

an xr destroys any stock sportster to date. no idea why that engine isn't the standard and didn't find it's way into the 2016+ roadster.

In 2016 Harley updated the Evo 883 and 1200 to the strict Euro 4 emission rules.
They did not do this with the Twin Cam engine for example. So I think the Evo 883 and 1200 has at least till 2019 going for Harley. Euro 5 is for 2020.
Some Italian manufacturers like Ducati and Moto Guzzi seem also able to finding way around to keep just air cooling there bikes and say they are ready for EURO 5. For example MG just introduced a new 850cc Adventure bike prototype with the engine pumping 80hp and being totally air cooled. Ducati also reintroduced the old 1100 cc Monster engine for the new 1100 Scrambler flagship.
To be honest it would be lame for Harley to go after the Indian Scout and Triumph Boneville series considering the Sportster sells more then these two do together. The first while having a clean nice profile IMO has an ugly engine with a radiator looking like a TV. Also the Indian engine is overkill for a cruiser having torque and HP rpm more worthy of crock rocket a then cruiser. The Boneville is nice and the engine tweaked better then the Indian but IMO it tries to be cool to much. But I like how the engine and hardly visible radiator look. The radiator is the size of the M8 engine.
One last thing would it make sense for Harley to have the Sportster more powerful on standard HP then a M8. The Evo 1200cc engine has 67hp while the M8 107 is about 84hp both in stock and in crank, that is a good balance to encourage customers to go up for a new Softail after some years. But if the Sportster was 90hp why would I do that.
