Default Sportster starting,

2008 xl custom 883. I bought this used. First incident turn key to start and clock and other electricals acted wierd and bike would not turn over. Minutes later all ok. Next time went to start after parking to eat, turned key on nothing at all. Pushed downhill to bump start no ignition. Took tried to jump and instrument lights came on but when i pushed start everything went dead. Took battery out, put on charger but it was charge battery on few months old. Installed next morning still lights until i push starter then nothing. I know that sounds like shorted starter but sometimes there are no lights without hitting start. Came back in afternoon to trailer it and it started like nothing happened. I am thinking of changing out the wiring harness. Any ideas??

How old is the battery?
Remove BOTH ends of BOTH battery cables, clean connections and reattach.

I would suggest before you replace anything, check the simple stuff....make sure all your ground wiring is securely connected even the battery to the frame. When your bike goes completely dead, it is a sign of bad ground. Next check your fuses...although mine has never been bad, I've heard on here that corrosion is a common issue. Then test your starting component including the battery.

Again, BOTH ends of BOTH cables, that's 4 connection points.
