Default sportster/Evo engine

Looking at a 2001 sportster for sale. Guy that owns it says that the original engine was swapped with a 2001 Evo 1200 engine. Tried google and couldnt find a comparison to see if this was a legit thing, if it was an upgrade/downgrade, or what the pros and cons would be of this swap.

All 2001 Sportsters have an 'Evo' engine, so no change in that regard. Perhaps it originally had an 883? There were three 883 and three 1200 models for that year, would be simple to swap over.

The evo never ended. The engine today is an evo.

1986 was the first year Sportster Evo and all Sportsters have been Evo's since … 2004 was first year for rubber mount and all rubber mounts are Evo's

Solid mount and rubber mount Evo Sporties do not inter-change. In any event, the current engine in William's bike is the same year as his bike.

VIN #'s now don't match if he "swapped" motors, walk away plenty of legit Sportsters out there.
