Hello biker friends, i am new to the forums, just wondering what the Evolution engine is, what it means, and how
you indentify a Evolution engine, i have a 2001 sportster and i am
not sure if it is a Evolution engine or what i have. Can anyone help me understand what the Evolution is and how to indentify it. just not sure what i have.

The Harley Evolution "EVO" came out in 1984 replacing the dated Shovelhead. When the EVO first came out...some called it the Blockhead though. The EVO continued on to 1999 being left in the Softails. A limited number of FXR's had the EVO from 1999-2001. The Sportster did not obtain the EVO until 1986 though....however, the EVO still lives in all Sportsters.
I am a big fan of the EVO.......my favorite is the EVO and Shovelhead engines.
Check out the Harley website and look for the engine hall of fame.
