Default Would 2014 Iron Front fork fit 2018 model?

Are the sliders and the tubes the same? How about the lower and upper brackets?
Thanks!

It's easy to use the online microfiche to find and compare parts from different years. I'd recommend you do the
research yourself.

http://partsfinder.onlinemicrofiche.....asp?make=hdmc

I -think- the external tube/slider are the same, but the "guts" on the new models are probably better. ie) cartridges

Question

It always helps us to help you if you explain why you are asking a question like this one! Why are looking to fit an old set of forks on a nearly new bike?

I knew about microfitche and looked it up before I posted here, but FYI, same parts use different part numbers on different years. Maybe someone can confirm this for you.

gbrown, new set of shocks are closer to 800 bucks, and mine are damaged and need replaced. There are some slider and tubes in the market in good shape, and considering the nature of the parts I could save 600 bucks just by buying used. by Nature of the parts I mean a slider is just one solid piece of metal and as long as its not damaged or scratched it will perform just like a new one. The inner spring is cheap and can be upgraded later.

Now, I still dont have a definitive answer. Specially on brackets

Having no insight into what you already knew, I suggested using the microfiche only to help, nothing more.
I have not seen "the same part" with different part numbers, but I HAVE seen in the microfiche where
old part numbers have been identified/updated with the new superceeded part numbers.

So back to the microfiche, as I suspected, the 2018 Iron uses newer cartridges so it will have better "action" than
the older 2014 Iron system. Will the older Iron forks "bolt in", yes since the tubes are still 39mm. Just don't expect
the ride/suspension action to be as good as the newer Iron version.

good luck,

T.

No one can answer your question because we do not know what 2018 model you want to use 2014 Iron fork parts on.

The 2016+ the front forks have a cartridge in one side, the 2015 and earlier are damper tubes in both fork tubes.

For 2018 there are five sets of upper/lower fork brackets

Lower Bracketssome may be the same with a different finish / color)
46998-11 BRACKET, lower, with bearing, seal and retaining ring XL1200T, XL883L
46767-07 BRACKET, lower, with bearing, seal and retaining ring XL1200NS, XL883N
6014-10 BRACKET, lower, with bearing, seal and retaining ring XL1200C
45900103 BRACKET, lower, with bearing, seal and retaining ring XL1200X, XL1200X ANX, XL1200XS
5900107 BRACKET, lower, with bearing, seal and retaining ring XL1200CX

What part or parts do you need? ... a whole Front-end or just a Slider or somewhere between?

.

Had an accident. Front shocks are bent. Dont know if the wheel is good yet. Minimum needs two tubes and sliders and lower bracket. New parts are very expensive. $800 for shocks only.
Trying to find out if there is any differences between upper and lower brackets with older models. The interior of one of the shocks is different, as one member pointed out.

Especially with a cast front wheel, the forces transferred into the frame on impact, when the fork tubes are bent, are very likely to bend the frame as well. That is not so easy to see, but can be checked by someone with a suitable frame jig. You should also confirm that the steering bearing cups are still intact. While we try to answer your question on alternative forks, you really should IMHO get your frame checked.

gbrown, this is the second sportster I am fixing, first one had two bent shocks that looked much worse than this one. I put new front end and it was just fine. If anything, the bent frame just makes it more aerodynamic lol
