I am 73 years old and think nothing about riding my freewheeler for 500 to 600 miles a day and my 2005 stock 883 sportster is a way smoother ride than the freewheeler.
My wife is 72 years old and she has ridden on the back of my sportster for more than 300 miles a day for 3 days in a row with no complaints of discomfort. If you are only going to be riding a max of 75 miles it doesn't matter what type of bike you ride, even a hard tail would be fine.
PS because you said you have a girlfriend I am assuming you are a young person not an old fart like me lol

I have added Progressive 444 shocks and a Mustang Vintage Touring seat and a rear sissy bar and my wife has fallen asleep on the back of my Sporty.

$6k is big money in the used HD world now, you can get a nice Road King for that:
-windshield: less fatigue
-bags: work, school, weekend trips.
-LONG trips (you can ride to your destination, unpack, then ride out to supper.

a Twin Cam: proven platform, prolly well modded, good power, smoother engine.
lower center gravity,
easily re-sell-able

i REALLY want this one:

As much as I'd love to pick up a nice Road King like that, I'm not really in the market for one right now. Really need something nimble enough for navigating the city easily and for ripping through some back roads with all of my friends on their jap bikes

I have had the big Harleys since I was 14 years old, I am 73 now. I just got my 2005 sporty last summer. It is the best bike IMO that I have ever owned, cheap and easy to work on, plenty of power, Just fun to ride. I also have a freewheeler but enjoy the sporty more. Will be selling the freewheeler this spring and putting a Frankenstein kit on the sportster

My wife and I are over 60 but still college sized. She likes the 05 sporty 1200 roadster (sundowner seat) over a dyna FXDX or a roadking. The longest trips on the sporty 2up have been 700 mile weekends. After the RK the sporty feels like a scooter. I rode it to LA and replaced the rear shocks with touring take offs in a hotel parking lot. My only issue with it is it runs out of legs above 80, the dyna and RK are better at speed crossing big open spaces. Here I would guess you could find one <20k miles for around $4k.

I would recommend changing the shocks before rather during a trip.

I found an 09 nightster 1200 12k miles for $5k at a local used dealer where I'm a repeat customer. I'd post link but don't want to spam and get Sophied.

Go for it. As stated, get a 2004+ sportster for the rubber mount. Good seats and upgraded suspension.

Does the rubber mount make that much of a difference? Id like to keep cost down and I've heard that post '04 is substantially heavier
