Default Timer Cover Help

I thought this was a trivial part to install, but the instructions say otherwise, I have a 2000 883 and I bought the "Classic Chrome Domed Timer Cover" I realized you had to drill out the rivet heads with a 3/8in drill bit but i had no idea that you had to disconnect the battery cables and unplug something else that I havent heard of (macro switch maybe?) Has anyone done the timer cover themselves, do you really need to disconnect the battery and the other electrical component it says in the instruction manual? Im afraid that if its not nessecary the dealer will do it anyway just to charge me for that extra 30 min of service. I'd rather do it myself anyway .
