Wanting to go with a chrome headlight bucket to replace the black one that came on the bike. I have found a new OEM chrome bucket, part #69674-05, of course it's not the same part number as the one on my '17.
Have there been any changes in this part, I assume the 05 means it is from 2005? It looks the same, the wires are the same colors, black/yellow, and they come thru the bucket in the same spot.
It will Fit...actually they haven't changed Physically in Years... can you wire it??
The bucket's wiring harness has a connector on it to plug into the bikes wiring harness. Looks to be plug & play from what I see on the bucket and the bike.
One reason I asked is, some buckets are deeper than others, and if by chance the bucket I'm looking at is shallower it wouldn't work as the LED headlight I have just barely fits in the existing one.

Ya got me there... I did Not know any bucket was deeper... Sure all look the same to me.
Maybe ask if anyone with an '05 has upgraded to the '17 Headlight??
The MoCo has always had a Knack for fitting much more into the headlight bucket than normal humans can remove then replace even!!!!!

The chrome bucket on my 2008 is deeper than the black bucket on my 2017. It is a continuation of the conical shape extended a bit further back.
The wiring on the 2008 harness incorporates the rubber grommet with the sheath going all the way back under the seat. To fit the wiring in a new bucket might require the H4 connector cutting off and renewing if the pins can't be removed from the housing.
On the 2017 the grommet is separate from the wiring loom and it might just be possible to feed the individual wires through if you can extract them from the H4 housing.
The 2008 bucket is held from underneath and can only tilt up and down.
The 2017 bucket is held from above on a ball so it can put in any position.

Some of the Sportsters didn't have the cowl mount for the headlight, mostly the 1200 customs I think. They had a more bullet shaped headlight bucket that mounted to the lower triple tree, at least from what I can find.
I'll look at my bike again today to be sure but, the chrome bucket I'm looking at, and the one on my bike has a short harness that plugs in right under the front of the gas tank on the left side. The chrome one also has the wiring harness installed on it.
Okay, the one you are picturing is the chrome version of the black one fitted to my bike. Although mine will have a different number if pre-wired as I have a parking/position lamp in the headlight.
Waste of money and materials to supply it with the wires in place. IMHO.

I'm guessing HD installed the harness because the hole on the bucket is too small for the harness connector to pass thru it, so the connector was attached after the wires were run thru the bucket. Kind of like what I ran into when I replaced the black rear frame strut covers with chrome ones. The turn signal connectors that plug into the tail light will pass thru the hole in the frame struts, but not thru the hole on the strut cover. It was SO close but wasn't happening. I had to slightly file the hole larger as I was NOT going to clip the connector off. Brain fart on Harley's part IMO.
