Sportster is a 'girls' bike?
Over in my Honda forum (I own both a Crossbones and a Honda VTX 1300) there is a thread about the Sportster being discontinued, and some ignorant peeps there are saying the Sportster is a 'girls bike' or has long been considered such. I went to great lengths to dispel this myth, but a few there remain stubborn in their stupidity. Yes, the Sportster is popular with women, but since women riders only comprise about 12% of the market, it seems reasonable to assume almost 90% of the Sportsters purchased would be by men.
What say you all?

It is no more of a girls bike than a Road King or a Street Glide Special, in fact perhaps less so. If you want a girls bike, get a Rebel or something akin to that.
The Sportster on the other hand, is first, a motorcycling aficionados motorcycle, an experts plaything, a soul pleasing and attitude adjustment machine.
Why your uneducated friends may want to want to call it a girls bike is because of their own short comings and inadequacies. Not the sportsters. The only reason for calling it a girls bike is that some Harley hardcore riders will get their mate a Sportster as a beginners bike. Low cost, easy to handle, is a true Harley in every parameter.
Hell, my Bonneville was more of a girls bike than any Sportster I’ve owned. The thruxton, okay a push.
Some weak minded riders just need to feel better about about their own pathetic choice by putting down other bikes. Don’t hang around such sad uneducated and ignorant losers. Find somebody who rides a sporty and never mention or discuss this again.
Oh, if it goes away, it happens. Nothing is forever, but in the world of motorcycles, the Sportster is damn close forever.

I personally love the Sportster, (especially the 48) and almost bought one a few times before I got my Crossbones. I consider the Sportster Evo engine the best engine Harley ever built. There will always be idiots who have to trash others choice in bike, and I think that is mostly where the 'girls bike' idea came from.
Some of you are old enough to remember the TV show, Then Came Bronson. So do some idiots think he was riding a girls bike?
