Are cadmium plated fasteners still commercially available in the USA, John?

The commercial use of cadmium was banned by law in the EU on December 20th 2011, due to it's toxicity cadmium plated fasteners are only available in Europe for military, aeronautical and aerospace use.

I bought some nuts for my exhaust three years ago that had a golden color, I assumed they were cad plated. At our local Ace Hardware, they have a pretty good choice of all types of fasteners. You may be correct, especially here in Kalifornia.

Yes, John, cadmium plating does have a lovely rich golden colour, in Europe we now have yellow zinc passivated plating, instead of cadmium plating, as below.

Been workin on Dertie Gertie on and off the last few weeks…

After curing a few weeks the wrinkle finish still stinks but it did become a little less glossy.

Ever wonder why Harley has that little spot of clean metal, with no finish where bolts torque down?

One tip that works for me is to use a heat gun to 'help' the wrinkle...
Here's a video about it.

I’ve also heard you can put it in the oven, but I don’t think my better half would have appreciated that…Not even a little.

The SS bolt kit I bought came with polished washers and I think that’s what you’re seeing.
