Road Trippin' on a Nightster???
First of all, I picked this sweet ride up in March. I just created a profile today, so I hope to communicate with you all more often. I appreciate any advice you can give me. I'll be uploading pics soon, so be on the lookout.
I would like a touring bike, or at least a bike that is modified to go on some distance rides (preferably detachable products, so I can remove it easily for single riding and better looks. This bike just doesn't seem to look good with all that stuff on it. Using it for storage and travel only. Has anyone done this to their Nightster??? Also, 2 UP riding would be a plus, since the wife is starting to show interest in riding periodically. Detachable product there, as well. 90% of the time it will be just me riding. Thank you all for your time, patience and advice.
God bless!

RE: Road Trippin' on a Nightster???
The Nightster is the least likely candidate for touring. It is a lean, tough, bar hopper type of bike and doing anything to it to make it into a touring type bike would be a sin. The Custom model Sportster is the one most frequently adapted to touring.
I have an 05 1200 C with quick detach windshield, Harley leather bags, Mini-rail back rest etc. The back rest is great for tying on an extra bag when I go for extended trips.
If you're interested in two up touring, none of the Sportsters are compatable for that. I love mine and do alot of touring. However, I ride solo and for that it is fine. For two up it's just too tight.

I agree with both whaap and seikan1. I have a 1200c but it's set up to be a street fighter. I do have a 2 up seat and throwover bags but it's low, lean, and not a touring machine.
I'm currently testing a 2001 Electra Classic for the weekend. Now that's a touring bike! If you have the means, and the need, get yourself a touring bike for the longer trips. You won't regret it. Besides 2 is better than one right?

I say, if you cant have two bikes, get a passenger pillion and a detach backrest. As far as luggage goes, get a touring pack that you could put on the back of the backrest. But if you want to make small day trips which is about the extent of what a nightster will give you comfort wise for a passenger, then you wont need many bags anyway. Now these are just suggestions to resolve the issue of it being the only availability for touring. I agree with everyone that the nightster is a solorider, minimalistic, bad boy bike that is meant for bar hopping. ( not encouraging boozing at every watering hole and getting faded).

Greetings! Nice Bike.
I'll probably get Barley's setup for carrying light loads...comic books, PSP, baby formula...
Barley
As for 2up, my wife wants me to give her a ride, but I'm to inexperienced and I think it's just too tight. I've offered to get her a bike when she can take a class.
I like the bike the way it is.
