Another vote for no windshield....

When I want a windshield in front of my face... I take the cage...

not to start any rumors or anything but I heard of a new federal law that states if you dont have a windshield on your bike then your going to have to wear a ff dot approved helmet .

I don't care for windshields myself but I did buy one to use on longer trips. It is laying in the garage now waiting to be used.

I'm ok with the windshield on the custom, but have to agree:

No windshield's on the peanut tank or nighty's PLEASE! Have some self-respect!

Second windshield postthis morning. Yes I have one and use it for any riding I do over 65. I like hearing the bike, kindof hard to hear without it. My hearing isnot what it use to be. As for them being for sissys. I think not. ........Ride Safe and Often......BearC.Paw........

For over 35 years I rode Harley's without windshields, and I was dead set against the idea of having them on any model....

But, when I purchased my Softail a couple years ago it came with a detachable windshield, so I thought 'what the heck', and decided to use it from time to time. Used it mainly in very cold weather conditions, and also when making longer runs in rainy conditions.

Much to my surprise I found out that using a windshield makes a big difference in comfort, especially when the weather conditions are miserable....

I also had the false impression that a windshield would greatly reduce the mileage during higher speed cruising, but that isn't the case at all.. And when you think about it, you probably get a cleaner air flow with the windshield installed than just allowing the wind to hit your head, shoulders, arms and upper torso.

I did check mileage on my FatBoy with and without the windshield installed (under the same riding conditions).

My Softail has a Screamin' Eagle Race Tuner, improved intake/exhaust flow, and was dyno tuned by someone that knows what they are doing... Without the windshield installed it averages 48 to 49 MPG. With the windshield installed it averages 47 to 48 MPG.. Mileage is almost identical, no matter if the wind is deflecting around the windshield or around my body..

But even so, I still think they look 'out of place' on some models.

I agree, they look like hell, but unlike the OP, I feel like I am fighting to stay on the bike at 70-75, and the flow of traffic on the interstate is 80 outside of the city. I wouldn't dream of keeping a windshield on the sporty, but a longer interstate trip seems like a royal PITA without one. Thus far,I plan longer trips around the country highways, which is an enjoyable detour, but once the novelty wears off I wouldn't have too many qualms over getting a detachable unit. Besides, cool pretty muchwent out the windowwith a DOT helmet, sofighting the comfort safety for the sake of coolness when coolness is compromised already seems like a mootpoint to me.Then again, I don't have that [:'(]peanut tank on mine, so maybe I get a "half-pass".

wind bothered me, but after you hit 90 and higher the lower speeds dont bother you. at least for me.

i cruise my 4 speed at 80mph on the way to work every day.
