Quite a bit of an oil sheen inside the air cover, and have to wipe some off the oil cover and pipes each day i ride.&nbsp\\; Is this really normal?

check to see how full your oil tank is. Ideal if it measures about 1/3 of the way up when hot.

The newer design SE aircleaner will get rid of most if not all of this and DON'T overfill the oil tank! Why they want the bike level to measure is beyond me,,,, On the side stand on a LEVEL surface with the bars STRAIGHT will give you a more consistant reading. Now about changing those marks on the dipstick........

Search sportster.org, lots of posts there about oil blow-by. Also a service bulletin from Buell on there about this issue.

This is what I got to solve my blow by oil problem on my 2006. It points the oil that comes from the blow by right back into the carburetor to get burned up. Instead of just misting and being to heavy to get sucked back in and leaking into the filter.

Service book,,You Need the HD service book.

My 2008 1200R,, Holds 3 qts total
I drain with a hot engine, side stand
( I do hold It straight for a few) while I'm suckin a brewski...
I put 4 oz in the dry filter,,a Guestimate 4 oz,
and the rest of the three qts in the tank.

Next day with a cold engine still on the sidestand I show oil on the
bottom 3rd of the stick,,and after a ride a perfect level at the
full mark ON THE SIDE STAND,,,
I didn't know 03's were diff.
You need a service book XD
