Default Broken Throttle Cable

I was out cleaning, shining and checking out the bike for the week. First, let me say I noticed that the throttle cable had gotten damaged in the stop (it was caught and crimped at the bottom of the triple tree, and I knew I had to replace it. I twisted the throttle to check for return and Snap! Throttle cable broke. I had planned on picking up a new cable this week to replace, but now, on a Sunday afternoon, cable is broken. I have a manual, have already begun to get into the bike to replace, hopefully I can find one tomorrow and have my buddy bring it up and help. A few questions:

1. I measured- is the standard size 35"? I ran the tape along the cable, it seemed close to that. I assume the dealer (only parts place that will be open on Monday) will know-

2. Do I need to remove the carb in order to re-set the cable, or is this a "remove it if you have to" thing? The air filter and backing plate have to come off in order to get at the carb and detach/reattach the cable, but I might be able to wrangle the cable off and on without taking the carb off.

Is adjustment going to be a royal pain?

That manual is a lifesaver! Just wish the cable had waited a little while longer....it would have been replaced before breaking. At least it wasn't on the side of the road.
