Default iron 883 - passenger seat instal

Hi, I just bought an 09 iron and I'd like to install a passenger seat. I'd like to know if it's pretty straightforward to install, with pegs and all, or should i have it done at the dealer. Also, on the HD website, it's says I need retention washers, where do they go? Thanks

all the parts will come with instructions and bolting things on is fun ! no need to have the dealer take away your fun and still charge you.

if you are looking for a 2 up seat, check ebay and the classifieds here and over at xlforum.com.

if you have not removed your seat yet...remove the rear fastner on the fender and you will need to push down slightly in the set while pushing it forward....the seat has a keyhole type slot in it that latches over a stud.

Learn a little about your bike, do it yourself. It's very very easy. Not to mention, the dealer is probably going to laugh as they rape you for asking them to install your seat. If you need help, just pm me. I installed a passenger seat and pegs on my iron too. I also remove and reinstall the passenger seat on a regular basis due to my girlfriend wanting rides. If you can screw in a bolt, you can do this.

Cool. Will the stock suspension cut it for 2 people, if I adjust it a little?

Just installed a Badlander seat on my Iron ... very simple. The washer is to take up space on the rear mounting hole. My daughter & I rode last weekend, just set the stock shocks on the stiffest setting & you should be just fine. The passenger pegs are a different story. I have V&H short shots & had to remove the entire exhaust & mounting bracket to mount the pegs. I am not sure if that is the case with stock exhaust.

Then you definately want to put them on before or during your S.S. install. Even if you dont add a passenger seat it is nice to be able to change foot position when riding.

No need for a dealer. the seat install and passenger peg install has to be one of the easiest things to do apart from a crash bar install
