Shorten V&H Pro pipe

Shorten V&H Pro pipe
As i looked over the V&H catalog, the Competition series caught my eye (which is not available for mine) I really like that it terminates near the front of the rear wheel (not necessarily the triangular outer) I have a '00 XL1200S with a V&H Pro Pipe that extends back to the bottom of the rear shock. I wondered if I cut about 12" off the end (or whatever would be needed to obtain the correct diameter) and got the end cap and baffle for the competition series if it would work.
1. no idea what the actual diameter of the end cap is and if it would fit anywhere along the taper
2. is the megaphone length THAT critical on this application
3. how would it affect the sound
I don't exactly have $500 bones to do an experiment. Anyone tried something like this/ know of another MFG that has similar sound and performance that is shorter / care to theorize what this frankenstein would yield?

That is the look i want for my exhaust, getting rid of those 6" or so makes a big difference! I experimented by taking the baffle out to see what it sounded like....the megaphone does in fact act as a megaphone, guess i am not hacksawing it off and making a new end cap on the CNC. This inquiry is more aesthetic driven than performance. I am not willing to SACRIFICE anything but i would like to have my cake and eat it too...
