Default Ironhead oil flow

Okay, I've gone round and round about this with a few people...
My '73 Sporty started puking oil out the vent tube up by the generator right onto the ground in front of my rear tire, (Which was awesome at red lights, but sucked in general.)
First thought was plugged line....nada
Second thought was Check Valve...nada
Third thought, oil pump pin sheared off...nada.
Then a friend made an observation about the oil lines, another disagreed and here we are...
Which way does the oil flow in the old Sporty's? From the bag to the case to the pump to the bag? or bag to pump to case and back to bag?
Because currently, the oil pump hose goes straight to the bottom of the oil bag.
And on top of that, my sporty has a custom oil filter at the back and an oil cooler at the front. I'm willing to re-route all of it, just need to know which way is right.
