Question Lost power while riding.....????

Ok so I'm gonna explain this as best as I can since it happened fast and scared the **** out of me....

I was coming home from about an hours worth of driving and was doing about 90km in fourth gear. All the sudden the bike lost power and the speedo went all the way down to 0. I just pulled in the clutch and pulled over. The oil light was on and I just flicked the kill off then on again and it started like normal. I just got it back from service 400km ago and the oil level is good. Wha happened???

I suggest you to check the ignition switch, try wiggling it and see if the power cuts off, it happened to me once after I washed my bike. Also check the battery terminals and ground wires.

Could you tell us a bit about your bike? Like what year, model, mileage?
Are any diagnostic codes stored?

The oil light being on really means nothing if the motor has quit running.

If the speedo went to 0 in this case then I suspect you lost electrical power.

What year sporty ? If a early model 07. Was a tech bullentin on the fule pump. Causing a intermeditate fuel loss and shut down. If so under left side of gas tank were fuel line is there is a plate with a part # if it has a letter A it's the early one. The revision has a letter B or C. This is a quess as there is not enough info. With the oil light being on you still had elec power.

Being an 09 my best suggestion is get it to the dealer and let the warranty take care of things. I have heard of this on an iron in my local area but i never heard the out come. It could be something simple as a loose eletrical connection and it does sound that way so good luck finding it.

If it was a total power loss, then it is most likely electrical, not fuel related.

Yes, I would first check Batt Cables. If you have the turn signal brake light module installed, it may very well bet that too! How many times has this happened??
