i wouldn't try puttin more than at most 6 miles on my bike before i pull it back in the garage to F with it .... really though its kinda pathetic how much my scoot is gettin torn down.

i would say 50K plus is gettin up there if yr talkin about buyin one. if yr just talkin about yours that you ride i would say 80k is gettin up there. beautiful thing about HD engines is that you they are solid, you can ride them then rebuild them and they still keep thumpin

Just keep riding, maintain and repair as needed, when it's needed. Mines in the ballpark of 80K on it. And I know 2 other guys here in town with around 150k on theirs, with not much more than regular maintnance, neither one had complete rebuilds.....just fixed individual parts as they gave out. I'd only consider a complete rebuild if the part that broke required splitting the engine case halves and your gonna have the engine completely torn down anyhow. But other than that, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Yeah, these bikes go for a good long while, assuming you maintain them. im sure cHarley or sportypig will chime in here sometime, their bikes have god only knows how many miles. If you wanting to get miles out of one, they are the ones to talk to.

no need to tear apart an engine unless she tells you to. Ride it and ride it some more when she needs a rebuild she will let you know with a new noise or some smoke or power loss. I work industrial maint no reason to take apart something that runs fine and makes no noise other than what it is suppose to.

I got a dyna and change the oil with amsoil every 4,000 and i hope to get alot of miles out of her before any major engine work in 2yrs i have put 35,000 good miles on her. at that rate they stack up fast and i plan to get over 100k and then some

Ride her till she breaks, fix her and ride her some more. The secret to engine and component life is a good warm up before EVERY ride, warm her up till the heads are to warm to keep your hand on them........she'll take you where you want to go.

Like all have said-only rebuild if it's really needed. I mean my bike only has like 12,300 on it, but around here that's alot for an 07 Sporty. They say here in Ohio the average for a year is about 5K so do some math from that if you like.

My 1200S has 52K on it. I just took the rear cylinder off to replace a leaking base gasket. Measured the bore and it's still within specs for standard rings. Like others on the board have said, do your regular maintenance and it will last a loooooonnngg time.

I'm approaching, or possibly just passed, 60,000 miles. Recently developed both base gaskets leaking. Since I'm gonna have to pull both of the jugs off to replace the gasket, I will probably do some engine work, but the bike is still running fine. As a matter of fact, for the last couple of months, it has been running better than it ever has.

I wouldn't do anything except replace the gaskets, but it seems like a perfect time to pack a few more horses into the bike. No point in putting 883 jugs and pistons back on, when it's just as easy to replace with 1200.
