Default those of you with a SERT

just wondering how much you were getting charged for these to be installed. my dealer told me $400 for the tunner and another $400 to install including 4 hours on the dyno.does it really take 4 hours? either way $800 was redicules to me. i know there are other options for fuel management but from what i've heard about them on here they are the way to go... not for $800 imo. i guess im cheap!lol
by the way i have an 09 iron 883(sig)

It doesn't get installed. It's just a plug that allows you to interface the ECU thru a laptop. At that point you can make changes to the fuel, timing, and a few other things that the ECM controls.

The $400 is for the Dyno work, not an install.

sorry for the confusion, i was refering to the dyno time AS install time. still the dealer told me $800 total and he said the tunner was $400 and the dyno time was $400. im confused

The SERT lists for ~ $400. Have found them on ebay for $300. A dyno-tune should not exceed three hours. 3 hours times $85/hr = $255.

the max you should pay for a solid dyno is $250-$300. Like others said, find another dealer or an indy. When dyno'd right, the SEST's are the way to go. There's nothing to be installed on the bike like a fuelpak or PC.

Just looked at the Super Tuner in the newest (2010) Screamin' Eagle catalog...

Harley-Davidson 2010 Sreamin' Eagle Pro Racing Parts

The tuner itself is listing for 459.95, the cable kit (which you definitely need!) lists at 39.95, and the 2010 software upgrade lists at 29.95...

Funny how every year the SEST is released, they always soak you for another 30 bucks for the latest software...

Anyway, the interesting part of the latest software is this:

"The new software also includes a new time-saving self-tuning feature called “Smart-Tune”. Now, you can choose a base calibration, run the bike and record the data to the VCI box, download the data, and the software will automatically make recommendations and adjust the settings for optimum performance. Smart Tune works on models with factory-installed O2 sensors only."

Now, as I see it, one might be able to get the SEST, cables & latest software, and by utilizing the 'Smart Tune' function, actually 'self-dyno' the bike...?!?

Yeah, it is not like being on a real dyno, but if you have an empty stretch of road to work with, you can make your own 'dyno runs'...

By the way, there is also a training DVD available for an additional 29.95...

Part numbers & pricing for anyone interested...

32109-08A Screamin' Eagle Pro Super Tuner 459.95
32111-10 Screamin' Eagle Pro Super Tuner 2010 software 29.95
32184-08 Screamin' Eagle Pro Super Tuner cable kit 39.95
32101-10 Screamin' Eagle Pro Super Tuner training DVD 29.95

Did they actually install anything, or was it dyno time & an ECM remapping?

The good thing I can see about actually springing for the full SEST kit is that you can do your own ECM remapping down the road rather than paying $250 again, and again, and again...

And with the new 'Smart Tune' feature, you might just be able to avoid the dyno charges altogether!
