I just ordered the HD SE high flow filter kit. I now found out it doesn't come with an K&N filter but some other non-oil washable filter. How do these filters stack up against K&N and can I get an K&N to use with this kit ??
If your looking for a high performance "ham can" style filter assembly with a K&N filter, I can't understand why people would buy the PLASTIC HD SE unit. Take a look at the NRHS A/C unit that performs better and has a billet aluminum backplate.
^ +1, I didn't like the plastic back plate and foam filter on the SE kit so I went with the NRHS Hurricane flow, really couldn't believe the quality when I took it out of the box, comes with the true K&N filter too.
It's a lot of money but I don't mind when I get a good product.
The stock SE air filter is a piece of crap. K&N makes a complete air cleaner for your bike that works real well. NRHS does make a real nice air cleaner but it's also real pricey.
The SE Filter flows all the air you need for a Stage 1. K&N makes an air filter for the SE Air Intake.
Your right it flows plenty but in the future if the plastic back plate warps you won't get a good seal with the air filter and your going to draw a lot of crap into your motor.
It looked a little plain by itself so I bought the HD skull air cleaner insert, shaved it down in the back, flattened it and attached it to the cover with double sided tape.
