Default i883 - Shocks

Hello,
New to the forum. Thought I would start a post with a question.

I have an 883 low. Currently with the Stock 11" springs in back. Now my wife likes to ride (funny she was so against the bikes at first). We all know the seats suck, but they really suck two-up and bottoming out! I ordered some J&P 12 1/2" springs to get a quick fix, I'll let you know how they work out when I get them.
So here comes the question: Where do I find a quality seat that is easy to swap out for my solo?
90% I am alone going to work and love the solo look. I don't have much cash since I just did a Barnett Scorpion clutch upgrade and tooled/trimmed up in the process. share your thoughts please...

Hi from the UK and welcome to HDF. Both shocks and seats get plenty of coverage in here, so there are plenty of threads to browse through. Get a long drink and use 'Search this Forum'. As for seats Mustang Wide Touring and Sundowner probably get the most mentions for carrying a treasured passenger. You're allowed more than one seat, so you can swap from cool to comfy as needed. Both come up on Ebay, so take a look over there for reasonable prices.

You can find great prices on used seats on eBay.

But more importantly, CANCEL YOUR SHOCK ORDER!!!

If you have 11" shocks and just ordered 12.5", all that you'll accomplish is raising the seat height 1.5".

Your stock shocks have a "firmness" adjustment! You can adjust them stiffer for 2 up riding, then click them back down when solo.

Thanks for the input. Too late to cancel any orders. I am hoping there is more travel in the longer shock, if not I will send them back before installing them. And yes the pretension adjusters are nice features for different riding conditions. However, I have found sometimes they change themselves on or two clicks. I must be topping out is what I figure. no big deal.

More travel won't necessarily improve ride quality. Unfortunately that is a popular misconception. Better quality shocks, which means more expensive, will improve ride quality, but there are no decent stock Harley Sporty shocks, except on the XR1200.

If I were you I would take a look at some Road King or Street Glide air shocks. Night and day difference and adjustable pretty much anytime you want with a hand pump.

Just to followup, I returned the shocks I bought as they did not offer any more travel. I'll try to save up over the riding season and upgrade next winter.
Thanks for your help.
