Default 2008 Sportster 883L Seat Question

Hello all,
I was wondering if any of you have opinions on a better seat option for the 08 883L. I have the stock solo seat at the moment which is just fine for short trips but after while I start getting pretty sore and have to take a break. Is there a better solo seat to be had? Will changing out the shocks help and is there any way to do this economically?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Rob

Loads of better seats around, look at Dennis Kirk for a big selection besides the seats Harley offers.
Good shocks will help a lot, the longer progressives are very nice, I went from the stock 11.6 to 12.5 inch shocks for more travel and maybe should have done the 13's.

For the seats, I know a few folks have purchased directly from Danny Gray, who make custom solo seats. Great reviews, lot of options. Also, Mustang makes a few different models of solo seats as well, have heard great things about them. And Corbin makes solo seats, although I rode a bike with one particular model on it and it felt pretty stiff to me, but you could tell it's high quality leather/construction. Those are just three plus the HD line I can think of right now.

As for the suspension, try to find a buddy or a dealer who has something other than stock shocks and take it for a ride--I'm a believer in Progressive shocks now, and kick myself for not putting them onto my previous bikes.

This is why I started with an Iron 883 this time around--so that over time I could make the mods that I wanted vs. what's stock already and upgrade parts and pieces at at time to get where I wanted without a larger loan from the start. Ride safe.

I have the Mustang 12.5 " Vintage Solo seat on my 09 883L and it made a huge difference. Much more comfortable than the stock solo seat and seems to raise the seating position up and back just a little bit. Best money I've spent on the Sporty to date.

Hi all,
Thanks everybody for all of your suggestions. I did some reading up and am now deciding on whether to go with the Mustang 12.5" or the Sundowner seat from Harley (about a fifty dollar price difference) in case I do eventually want to go 2 up. Anyone ride 2 up on a 883L? Is it even doable?

I had an 883c set up for two and it was not very comfortable for my wife and I. Not bad at all for bike nights and short rides. We used the stock seat and stock shocks, both which I don't believe are really designed for two folks. Added the HD backrest kit which was really nice for her. My only comment about the larger Mustang seats is that they look really big on a sportster--but you have to decide what's more important, looks or comfort. Mustang is more comfortable than any HD product, IMO.

ANYTHING is better than a stock seat on any Low Sportster! Better shocks will only really help with the ride quality but not really help with the comfort of your butt. I have a HD Sundowner seat that I use for 2 up riding and I have had no complaints from any of the passengers yet and I normally do 500+ miles a day. I also have the removable back rest to help make my passengers feel more secure on the ride. It is true that a more padded, wider, comfortable seat will look a bit big on any Sportster so you will have to make a tradeoff on comfort over looks. I like comfort better on long rides. I can just throw on the nice looking seat for around town hops in a minute or two so I have the best of both worlds. I also have an Air Hawk seat pad that I can use when I feel the need or for when a passenger’s extra comfort is needed. It works for me! Good luck on your decision to buy another seat as there are many out there to choose from. Take care and ride safe out there!

You can go 2 up on an 883L, but you will need to add a set of passenger pegs and depending on the total weight of both riders you may need to change out the shocks.
