I'm a little over 36k on my 2000 883 get 55 on average. Today I got 57.4 on a 170 mile ride that was 30 miles of 75-80MPH interstate and the rest 2 lane curvy southern Indiana roads. If I do a whole tank at 80MPH I get around 52MPH
I've payed my taxes and I usually get 55-60mpg when I ride tank to tank on the Interstate between 70 and 80 mph. Riding in the city I only get around 35-40mpg. I guess I like to goose it a bit from stop light to stop light.

Odd...I get better mileage cruising around the city than at 70mph.
wow, from reading this there isnt much mileage differencefrom the 883 to the 1200
No there is not. The gearing in the transmission of the 883 is lower than the 1200 to make it feel like it makes more power than it actually does. It lets the engine rev higher. If the engine is revving higher then it is going to eat up more fuel.
For example the 4th gear ratio for the 1200 is 4.102 and the 5th gear ratio for the 883 is 4.071 making them essentially the same gear. So cruising in 5th on an 883 is like cruising in 4th with a 1200. But the lower gearing does make for a bike that feels like it has tons of torque especially once HP is bumped up a bit.
