dont believe this... really dont know of any clubs that cut out our bikes. if they do, just find another one. must be a hog group in your area. where are you?
my riding buddy just rode his dyna cross country (6 weeks) around the whole thing. when he got back he told me he would have preferred to have been on mine cause of the power to weight ratio. the power to weight ratio of the big harleys is even worse...
i say, ride what you want to ride and find a group who isnt so messed up.
here is my sporty in "road set-up"

I've been involved in MC's since back in the 1970's and don't recall any that required patched members to have a Harley of 1400+ cc's.
Most of the Traditional MC's (known as 'Outlaw MC's by most) state in their ByLaws that a full patched member must own at least 1 Harley with a minimum displacement of either 900 or 1000cc's. A 1200cc Sportster would be just fine.
Also, hard as it is to believe, many members of MC's own bikes other than Harleys, such as dirt bikes, dual sports, etc.... ByLaws don't forbid owning metric bikes, just require that you own at least one Harley of the required minimum displacement.
MC's can put about any requirements they want in their ByLaws, but none of the major players that I know have a minimum displacement requirement of 1400 cc's.

Better yet, could the worthless pushead back & tell hime that folks urged you to stay away from self absorbed squid clubs like his because they could only ride dealership bikes because they're too inept to be able to service their own. I own several Sportys, along with a 52 Pan, a 73 Shovel & a 1962 Triumph Thunderbird chopper, and not only will they keep up with these clowns, they'll easily leave their stupid TC's in the dust.
You can find plenty of fine folks to putt with that won't run you down for what you ride........

somewhat similar to the club in my area, quite a few of my regular riding buddies are members of this club and have been after me to join. i found after attending a meeting as a guest that sportsters have to bring up the rear on all rides so the last time the guys asked me to join i said
"NO thanks, im not a second class citizen that brings up the rear on any rides unless i want to" thankfully they havent asked me since.
