Default 1200 upgrade vs. stage 1

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to get some opinions on what you guys would do and why ?when it comes to getting either the 1200 conversion kit or do a stage 1 upgrade with Rsd intake and bassani sweepers for a 2010 iron ... The way I look at it for everything with the pipes im lookin at, the price difference isn't big enough to swing me one way or the other. I figure that the pipes will look good and sound great but the there is an actual power gain with the conversion...

Anyway thanks in advance guys and riding season is upon us ... just hope this weather lasts ! Ride safe

I'm in the same boat. I only have 1200 miles or so on my bike....hopefully get to 5000 before (if ever) upgrading the engine. I'll most likely just sell after the stage 1 upgrade and after I pay down some of my 19 year 16 percent interest loan.

There is a power gain going either way, the conversion is a bigger power gain though. Downside, the conversion makes it hard to get the grin off your mug.

If you want the pipes and intake chances are your still goin to want them after the 1200 kit. So add that to your figures. jmho

I followed these steps:

I started with Stage 1 upgrade with SE air cleaner, V&H SS pipes, and a SERT. This pushed the bike from around 45 HP to about 54 HP. I rode this for about 5,000 miles and am now looking at the extra power from the SE 1200 upgrade.

Since I already have the pipes, SERT, and air cleaner the SE 1200 upgrade will only require the kit. (though I am now going to be stuck with a second SE air cleaner).

You might want to just start with a Stage 1 and see if that fits into your riding style before you start pulling the jugs and heads. I still love the Iron, but am starting to thirst for more pull.

Also keep in mind you'll still need to buy the SERT (or other fuel mapping device) if you go with the 1200 conversion.
