RE: Apes to Drags...
Well I am not sure on your bike, but I went from apes to drag bars on my 97 sporty and didnt change the clutch cable. That was about six months ago. Then the other day I went to get an oil filter to change oil and when I parked I went to pull up a little farther and my bike didnt want to move.Well that is because my clutch cable got caught between my front wheel and the fender!!! I was lucky I wasnt riding when it happened. So I would suggest you look and see if the cable will be to long and get caught like that.I parked it until I got a shorter cable and now it is fine.I didnt have the same trouble with the throttle cable but you might want to check that and the brake line also.

Well there's a good chance that shorter cables will make things look cleaner with the drag bars, but if your creative enough you should be able to come up with cable routing that will work. When I got my 94 sporty I switched from buckhorns to drag, and thottle cables were no problem, brake line I had t bend the hard metal tubing around to shorten. and the clutch I re-routed up through my forks around the headlight. But especially with the clutch cable use cable ties to guide the cable up along the frame in the front to keep it away from the front wheel, otherwise it's a gauranteed snag before you know it. And after you get things routed well, test and turn you front alll the way back and forth and watch all your cables and look for possible snags, cables rubbing or getting stretched too tightly, and test pulling your clutch while you do this to make sure the cable has good smooth travel in all steering positions.

I like the look of apes - but so many here have em I think it's cool you're doing the opposite

It's not a bad thing... to go with the flow... as long as it's in the direction YOU want to go...
