Default ????????

Do I need to have my 07 1200c re mapped to put on pipes? The dealer told me that to put on pipes I had to change out the air cleaner and have it remapped. I had a kawi rocket and the dealer told me to just put a pipe on it and don't worry. I had that bike for three years and no probs. They are both FI, wouldn't the computer compensate for the exhaust.

If you do not remap your 07, the dealer will not make any $$. I am going to change the slip-ons on my 07, and ride it before making any other changes. For the most part, the 07s are too new to really have a good "track record" for stage 1 upgrades, etc...

My dealer told me, "If you change the intack and add SE slip-ons, you can gain 5% in torque, but you'll need to reflash the ECU."

By next Spring, the Power Commander will be out for the Sportster, as well as several new slip-ons. IMHO, changing the slips-ons only will not negatively impact your bike and will be within the EFI systems ability to compensate. You can also keep the factory mufflers if you have a problem. By next year, we'll have a much better idea of what works and what does not work.

Thanks for the reply.
I couldn't figure out why I didn't have to remap my kawi but the H-D dealer told me that I had to on the sportster.

In their defense, I didn't say slip-ons, I just said pipes.

Sorry to dissagree with you, but YES you need to remap. Put your pipes on, get a re-map or your motor will NOT run as efficient and good as it should and could. It's not a matter of the dealer getting paid. That is just a realistic cost of FI and your desired motor changes. Put the A/c and pipes on, get it to the dealer for a remap 1 time and your done. No big deal.

I have the new slip ons. No remap necessary, runs better, has more power.

You're wrong. My guess is that you do not even have an 07. No remap necessary for mufflers only.

badbs101 is correct. you can do either the exhaust or the high flow can and not have to reflash. But if you do them both together you will need to reflash the ECM.

Not true.

Exhaust only can be done with no ECM recalibration. If you do the air filter only or both air filter and exhaust, you need to do the ECM recalibration.

I went to the dealer where i ordered the bike from today and they told me that I had to re-map for either. (probablly to sell me the stuff)

They also suggested to get the se race tunner at the tune of $450.

They gave me a se book and i saw in there that they also make a device that only adjusts fuel- it is about $200 Less than the race tunner. I don't plan on doing a lot of other performance mods so why would I need to get the tunner rather than something just to modify the fuel map.

My concern is that if i put the slip-ons on the bike that I will have a problem w/ warranty in the future if i don't have the dealer do it. I am looking at the vance and hines hs slip-ons. V&H tells me that I need to re-map as well, but they are also selling fuel tuners.

Some one please shed some light!
