Default Speedo problem on my 48

So this past weekend it was really nice out and had the weekend off for the holiday. Got about 15 miles into my ride and I look down to see how fast I was going because I was coming into a town and didn't want to get pulled over for something stupid and I notice it is reading 0. Now when I came to the stop sign my bike sounded kinda funny to like it wasn't idling right. So I went back home and parked it.

Yesterday I checked everything over, made sure my fuelpak numbers were right and even got the numbers for my addons to double check. I checked the trouble codes and I got P0505 which is the speedo. I also got P0132 and P0152 which are the front and rear O2 sensors. I checked them and made sure they were connected and tight which they were. So I left the bike alone until today when I drove to work. Was fine this morning, no problems what so ever. Then on the way home(my commute is like 5 miles or so) I notice the damn speedo says 0 again. Checked the codes and nothing even came up this time. Bike didn't run funny like last time or anything. So does anyone have an idea what could be going on. Is it the speed sensor? The fuelpak? And if it's the speed sensor where is it located at so I can check it. Thanks for reading ahead of time

Blaven check your speedo pin connectors to see if there is anything on them. Clean em with contact cleaner and try that out to see if it helps. Maybe even dab on some dielectric grease.

Well at least someone responded to me with a solution Where would these connectors be so I know I'm checking the right thing. It has to be something loose I didn't have any trouble with it from last year up until now :\

Blayen... I am not sure if your speedo and the 2009 Iron are the same... but they probably are... there are two screws in the rear of the speedo .. when you remove them you will have access to the connector.. your connector should snap in and stay securely attached to the body of the speedo... just unplug it and make sure is not wet or has loose cables.. the speedo has two different power sources coming in through two separate cables.. one powers the odometer and the other powers the needle... did you notice if when the speedo indicated 0 MPH the odometer was still counting miles?... if that is the case then the cable that powers the needle is either loose or lost power... please check the connector first.. if the problem persists and the odometer count miles while needle is at 0 MPH I can help you with the cabling details (I have the electrical system service manual)... I hope this helps!

I was watching the odometer and it was stuck on the 9 while it was reading 0 MPH but I didn't notice it till I was almost home so I dunno if it was just not counting or I didn't go far enough for it to change over. I didn't bring it to work today, but when I get home ill pull it apart and check the connection. I'm really hoping that's all it is. I'm gonna take the seat off and check the connections to the ECM and the fuelpak to rule that out. Thanks for the reply ill let you know if I need the diagram depending on how it goes when I take the speedo apart.

Well I checked all the connections inside the speedo and they were all solid. I took the seat off and took apart the harnesses and the fuelpak ones looked crimped on a few so I dunno if maybe this caused it or not but I'm gonna disconnect the fuelpak and see if the problem happens again on a short ride. And if so I will be ordering some X14ieds and scrap the fuelpak.

I had the same problem on my 09 iron.

It happened the first year I owned it. The mechanic said that there was debris caught in the sending mechanism. I don't know what that means, exactly, but they replaced it under warranty and it's been mostly fine since.
