Why did you end up buying a Sportster?

Never owned a Sportster or even considered one until late last year. I had ridden a late seventies Sportster back in 1980 and I remember it being the worst bike I had ever straddled in my lifetime...still as true today as it was back then.
After selling my '76 FXE I felt the urge to tinker with something and ran across a '07 883L on ebay...to this day I can't explain why I was even looking at a Sportster. Anyway, I won the auction (much to my dismay) with a final bid of $3600. The bike was lady owned and with only 1670 miles on it I figured I could at least re-sell and make a little profit.
It showed up in the driveway late one afternoon and I remember thinking, "I will not be seen riding something like this". I went to work and returned home shortly before midnight...took it for a short clip down the street just to see if it even ran and was surprised at how smooth it was. Parked the bike in the garage and mulled over the possibility for a few days. It was about that time I ran across this forum and everyone was raging about the 48's...a light bulb appeared above my head and I decided then I could make something out of this.
The rest is history...the bike in it's current state is without a doubt the best looking, smoothest riding project I have ever undertaken. It has taken me into another region recently...expect to see a turbo on the little beast very soon.

Why a Sportster?
Just put a downpayment on a 1200c. Sat on nearly every bike in the shop (American HD in Leominster... great folks) and the Sportster just fit (at 185 lbs, 5'5") and I plan on commuting, so quick and nimble was a big plus. What clinched it was that it's smooth enough for a longer haul. That and it makes me grin every time I look at it.
