Default Rear fender replacement

I need to replace the rear fender on my newly purchased "project bike" a '98 XL 1200 Custom. I found a '94 Sportster rear fender on Ebay and called my local HD parts dept to see if it would fit on my '98. They told me the part # changed in '97. The pics posted on Ebay look the same as mine but the crease/body lines are not as smooth as mine, but from what I can tell the bolt holes are in the correct locations. I'd like to go back stock as much I can and its my first HD bike, so I appreciate any info, advice, help you guys can give me.

Default RE: Rear fender replacement

Well first welcome to the forum. You can just about make anything work if you can think it. I just put an early 90's fender on my 01. I had to drill a few more holes but mostly it was an easy fit. Of course I chopped the fender but regardless it still worked.
