Default Best Rear Suspension for Sportster?

Simply put, what is the suspension one can put on a Sportster (or any bike) that greatly improves comfort and handling?

I read a lot about air suspension and how people love their RK shocks. Some other say Progressive make the best suspension. I've also read about Legend Air Shocks and I am really interested in their products (not the price tho lol).

So, what is your opinion?

I don't know about "the best" as I think thats always a little bit subjective, but I'm more than pleased with the Street Glide air shocks that I fitted to my 48 in the summer.

They have transformed the bike, it handles 1,000 times better than stock and my wife can ride pillion in relative comfort now, I would recommend them!

^+1, definitely the best bang for the buck and possibly just as good as the real expencive replacements.

When you ask a question that includes the word 'best', you better have deep pockets! I have Hagons on my Sporty, which are fine solo and a great improvement over stock, but I have the 'best' on my Glide - Ohlins. You can get them custom built for YOU from HDF sponsor Motorcycle Metal. They can also supply the very 'best' forks, if you have very deep pockets.

Well you did ask!

Yes, but we're only talking 'best' here!

I learned from my Moto X days and dirt stock car days that when it comes to suspension, more travel is better if you control it well. I chose 13.5" Progressive 440s for the rear and for me it has been the best choice. I put Progressive springs in the forks with 7w BelRay fork oil. The bike never jars my spine, is unruffled by bumps in a turn and doesn't nose dive or squat. I don't how to say it any better.

the best suspension you are ever going to get is to buy a hovercraft and mount the sportster to it.
