Default My Winter Project Burly Apes

Going to be putting on some 16" apes for my project this winter. I know there are plenty of threads about bars but I am trying to choose between the Burly Narrow Glide and the Nash Gimp. I know that Burly knurls their bars and Nash does not. Is it really safe to use a bar that is not knurled?

Pics to come once I get parts ordered and get started.

I've got Nash bars and love them. I think they look better than the Burly bars but that's just my opinion. Them not being knurled worried me too. I've been meaning to put something like emery cloth in the clamps to keep them from slipping.

Someone in a post mentioned cutting up a bicycle intertube and wrapping the bar in the clamp.

I have apes that are not knurled and it worried me too. They did get loose at first and moved backward. I tightened the bolts and the bars don't move anymore. But just like YOURADHERE, I'm going to put emery paper inside the clamps. YOURADHERE, do you intend to fold the paper and put it at the bottom inside the clamp or actually wrap it all around the tube? I'm just curious :-)

You guys need to get bars that are knurled, I've seen two guys have their bars spin down on them while riding. One guy was able to stop the other crashed. Call some local shops and see if anyone has a hand knurling tool. Or you need to pin them in place.

I have had both the Nash midget gimps and the Burly narrow glide apes. Both were 14in. I think the Nash midget gimps look 10000x better than the Burly apes. The narrow width all the way up just looks way better with the narrow glide front end. I rode with my Nash gimps for over 10,000 miles un-knurled including a 5,000 mile trip to Sturgis and back and they never budged. Unfortunately someone knocked my bike over in a parking lot and they are now destroyed. The Burly's with the knurling moved on me more than once. That pretty much goes against physics but hey its what happened.

Another place with some pretty awesome hand built in the USA bars for narrow glides is Zombie Performance. They are cheaper than Nash too.

Ordered the 16 inch Burly Narrow Apes with the cable kit from a local dealer today. Project should start sometime after Thanksgiving. Now to determine if I want to move my blinkers to the triple tree.
