Yes, since we have a smaller population up here, and a lot fewer HD dealerships, there are not many Irons around.

When I did find a used Iron, they were already partially customized ( the ones I saw were not customized in a way that I found attractive ), and hell, customizing is what it is all about and someone else's customization was not for me. And as you said Rambo, they want more than what a new one costs.

Keep in mind if you find one in the states that is a good deal, even if it is right across the border in Bellingham, you will have to modify it quite a bit to meet Canadian standards and that will cost you $.

Yah exactly. Thanks Mitch that helps a lot. Is the difference from 883 to 1200 that big? does the 883 feel slow before the conversion? Also how much more is it to insure a 1200 compared to a 883, i heard it's a decent amount more

Assuming that you have your motorcycle endorsement, find a dealer that will let you ride an Iron, a 48, a Nightster etc. You might like the forward controls of a 48, the look of the grey engine covers of the Nightster, the 1200cc of power, the Ember Red Sunglo of the Iron, etc. One of them will catch your eye and feel right.

As far as price, I'd try to get one comparison price to another local dealer, just so you feel like you are paying market value. That way, you know your number you want. You can walk-away from a bad offer or accept a deal that feels right.

I was in a similar situation a few months ago. I know the feeling.

One of the disadvantages we have in Canada is the number of dealers. Vancouver is one of our biggest cities but there are only 3 dealers in the whole lower mainland which is many cities including Vancouver. I have looked through the HOG travel guide and am amazed that some cities in the US have more dealers than we have in all of western Canada.

Had the security on my Street Glide, nice to have but a pain to allways make sure you have the key fob just to move the bike, I had the siren also.

As far as the 883, I am very happy. I think it is plenty of power for around town and short trips.
But as said before ride one but the forward controls are much better and it is something you can add.
If the 883 Iron catches your eye first then get one because it is a great bike.
