Default 48 rear suspension travel

Hi folks,
what is the rear suspension travel on the 48? and how long (short!) are the stock shocks?

Anyone upgrade their rear suspension? If so, what with?

Thanks

Stock 48 rear shock length is 11". that's measuring center of eyelet to center of eyelet. My guess is only a few inches of travel on stock suspension.

By 'upgrade' do you mean improve to a better quality ride?! My SuperLow stock shocks were a little over 11" long, with 2 1/16" travel, IIRC. I would guess yours are similar.

I upgraded to Hagons, which are 13" long and have 3 1/8" travel. Because their shocks have longer travel they specify longer shocks, as things on the bike start hitting each other if they are shorter.

If I remember correctly the stock 48 shocks have something around 1.5" of travel. Quite pathetic actually. I don't remember the exact figure but I remember it's less than 2" but more than 1".

Agree with "Here". Very little travel. Lots of guys have switched to the air shocks from touring models. Not in my sig pic but I've recently put on the 12" road kings airshocks and it improved the ride significantly.

Thanks for the info guys. Looks like a shock upgrade is the answer... don't think I'd last long with less than 2" travel in the rear suspension.

I have heard people complain about the stock shocks also being really stiff. Even when set to the softest position. Maybe because they are bottoming out, who knows. Looking to change mine out this summer but not sure with what yet. I do like the Progressive shocks but they are pretty pricey.

Check into swapping out for the air shocks off a touring bike. You can make the swap for about $75-100 and they're quite an improvement.
