Default Anyone have a speedo w/ around 8000mi on the odometer?

I am assigned to a military installation in CA and have a chance to pick up a sweet nightster from a guy getting ready to move overseas...however, it is currently registered out if state and DMV said I can't register it in CA unless it has over 7500mi (it only has 2000mi). So I'm checking to see if any of y'all have a speedo with @ 8000mi that I could borrow to get it registered. I'll pay shipping both ways...please let me know ASAP...
Thanks,
Dave

My bike has the "old time" speedo cable, so normally I'd say get a dremel and run up the odo. You can register and devalue your bike at the same time. Of course, even running it to 100 mph would take 60 hours to put on 6000 miles.

What if you told DMV the speedo was replaced? Or, is there not a way to erase the odo memory? Tell them you had an electrical issue? Do they even look at the bike? Do you think I ever told them the truth about what I paid for a car, truck, or bike?

I got a new title for a dirtbike with nothing but paperwork, no inspection or anything. Remember, we can't even support our public schools here in CA.

It's not like they put you on a lie detector.

The more I hear about these newer bikes, the happier I am to have an old one.

BTW, for any of you Barney Fife's out there, the statute of limitations is passed for any of my above confessed sins.

I'd trust him for sure. I know he got a kick out of my story of the "real" purchase price of my Sportster back in November, 1990.

Brand new 1991 Sportster 883, final purchase price: $200

Just curious why the hell do they require that many miles on it to register the bike?

I doubt they inspect your bike, just tell them what they want to hear if you have to. Seems absurd to me the mileage issue, better to tell them you're in the military and get transferred a lot. Not to mention, you potentially risk your life to protect the rest of us.

Credit Card company somehow lost the charge. Never inquired, since I never got a bill.

Only paid $200 deposit to order the bike in August 1990. Picked her up the day after Thanksgiving, been a proud and happy owner ever since.

Never used that card again, and the company closed the account for "lack of activity" a couple years later.

I'm lucky, because I never have to see my Sportster as more than a $200 purchase, so I get to keep her forever, which was always my desire.
