Little back ground story first: I have a 01 883c with a centerline mag on the back end!
I bought a Avon AV72 whitewall tire, and after installing it I noticed that it was rubbing against the chainguard, easy fix... remove the chainguard problem solved right?! WRONG!!! Few days later, noticed that my strap was also rubbing against the tire!
Called back the dude who installed the tire and explained the situation to him. He told me to swing by with the chainguard and the bike to see whats up. In his opinion, this particular tire, even though it is a 130, is slightly wider than that, and thats why it rubs.
Has anyone had a similar experience with this tire, or any tire that didn't fit or that rubbed?
Different tires, even if they are both the same label size (say 130/90-B16), will have different actual widths and heights. When using a non-OEM tire it's your responsibility to verify sizing from the tire manufacturer to insure it will fit.
Update: So it turns out that at some point in the bikes past, someone replaced the spacer with one that was 5 thou less than stock, which in turn caused the rubbing issue. Problem solved
