I put the Dakota Digital on mine i love it!

the line next to the mph is the GEAR INDICATOR... it can also be programed for KPH when setting it up!!!! so far its been one of the best mods on the bike... it comes in RED or BLUE.

If she has an android phone you could always use harleydroid, cost is around 30-40 bucks for the bluetooth device and connectors plus what ever you want to mount the phone.

I have the HD digital/analog speedo and tach on my Sporty. It has a gear indicator and a fuel gauge that works well with the optional sensor I had put in the tank. The gear indicator only works when the bike is in motion.

Thanks for the advice guys, been away so not had chance to catch up with her about the new options.
Not familiar with the Bluetooth device, that's a new one on me but will have a look, is it US only? The Dakota does look pretty cool, need to look for a UK supplier and price, but her favourite is still the Harley combined, but she may change her mind.

Will let you know what's going on.

Thanks again.

The Harley tacho at the side of the speedo is a good simple option i agree but I think she is really after a physical indication, something at a quick glance.
In her defence, she had rode this bike for 4 years and loves it but its the occasional changing down into first rather than second at turns and roundabouts etc that bugs her.
The Harley combined speedo/tacho is what she is really after but UK prices are so expensive which is why I thought I would see what options were out there.

Better Start saving
when rolling I find it really hard to shift into first (well harder then other gears). Sometimes I'm looking for 6th and don't have one lol. When her seat mileage goes above her owned miles first/second gear difference shouldn't be an issue. But then again I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed when I rented a new harley this summer I couldn't figure out the green light on the speedo so after 500 miles I put my glass's on and it said 6 and I said well well I have a 6 speed... lol

Why is a gear indicator desirable? It seems as though knowing what gear your in is really unimportant.

Apart from adding some funky new dial or clock, it was really when approaching a junction or roundabout to check she arrives in 2nd gear rather than going into first and risk it locking up. She could count on 1 hand how many times this has happened in 4 yrs though.

So in her case, probably 80% looks and 20% function!

Well HarleyDroid is an app for an android phone:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...leydroid&hl=en

You need to make a custom cable that connects the diagnostic pin to a bluetooth OBD2 device, then you just pair that with your phone and you can get all sorts of information on your bike.

Ha. Funny. Yeah, I guess a few times I have been in 2nd instead of 1st but I figured that's just part of riding a motorcycle. I like the Harley because while it doesn't like starting in 2nd it's much more well behaved than say a 1973 Honda CB500 starting in 2nd. I once downshifted to 1st on my first bike thinking I was going to come to a stop but the light changed and I didn't slow down enough and let the clutch out without upshifting to a more appropriate gear, the back wheel locked up. Kind of scary.
