Keihin butterfly carb tuning
For any other old school guys out there.

Followed his advice, my 87' Sporty 883 runs amazing. Throttle response is awesome and its much quicker. Also helped that I replaced the old intake manifold gaskets and put in a phenolic carb spacer.
My specs are up one size on the pilot jet 52 to 54, 1 turn open on the mixture screw, stock main jet 155, and Andrews accelerator pump. Dennis Kirk had it all in stock as well as the James spacer kit.

I've done all those performance mods, but sort of discovered them on my own over a few years of tinkering. I also fitted a Screamin' Eagle air cleaner assembly, and since the choke was barely needed, I removed the choke shaft and plate from the mouth of the carb to increase airflow. A couple squirts from the accelerator pump and it starts right up. I left the fast idle linkage in place (controlled by the choke ****), so I can bump the idle up a bit until it warms up in colder weather.
